Friends of Dundonald Castle are going to be hosting a number of talks once a month during the summer season. The talks will take place in the Visitor Centre on the last Thursday of the month. Prices are £5pp and include Tea/Filter Coffee and Shortbread. The Talks will usually be held from 7-8.30pm (unless otherwise stated). We look forward to seeing you there! 26th APR – Colin Park and Dave Taylor – Bringing the Castle to You – Ideal if you are unable to walk up the castle, our extremely knowledgeable guides will share all the fascinating facts you would hear about on a tour, (and learn about some other exciting developments to make the castle more accessible for all).
31st MAY – Kirsteen Croll and Lauren Welsh – Heritage Project and Future Excavations! – Great if you are interested in the castle’s history and more importantly come and find out about the castle’s archaeology and what we will be doing this year!
28th June – Jane Sik – Meet Jane local bee keeper and her bees.
“Bees must have been kept on and near Dundonald Castle Hill for hundreds of years. Probably the castle had straw skeps in Bee boles in a wall somewhere. I have kept bees at the bottom of the hill for seven years (and find that people know very little about honeybees but find them fascinating). I will talk about their life cycle and about keeping bees and try to include a bit about history!
26th July – Roy Kavanagh – “There’s money in them hill’s” A talk with maps and charts of Lead mining and Gold Mining in the Wanlock Hills.
30th August – Gillian Borland – Meet Gillian the Falconer hear about working with Owls, looking at diet, habitat and hunting techniques. Featuring Starlite our resident Barn Owl
27th September & 25th October Join us on a night visit to the castle, hear of some spooky goings on and historical hauntings £8pp
